The Canon PGI-220BK ink cartridge is designed to be compatible with several of Canon's printing systems. Cannon advises that you can expect to yield up to 324 pages of text from the Canon PGI-220BK ink cartridge. Of course the yield depends on what type of printing is being done. However, customers have reported getting far more pages than this with one Canon PGI-220BK cartridge. The Canon PGI-220BKcartridge contains an intelligent chip that warns the user when more ink is needed. It also allows the user to go online to purchase a new Canon PGI-220BK cartridge and have it sent to them. Users have reported that even when the chip detects the Canon PGI-220BK cartridge is out of ink, it will give you the option to keep printing anyway. Some users have reported being able to print in excess of 500 pages with only one Canon PGI-220BK ink cartridge.
There are many companies that offer their own versions of the Canon PGI-220BK ink cartridge which would also fit the Cannon printers. However, the Cannon company does not recommend the use of these cartridges. Cannon states that their Canon PGI-220BK ink cartridges are specifically designed to work with their Cannon printing systems. The Cannon company warns that using other brands of ink in their printing systems, instead of the Canon PGI-220BK ink cartridges may result in damages to the cartridges, and even damages to the printer, itself.
There are also refill kits available to fill the Canon PGI-220BK ink cartridges. And, for those who are not so adventuresome as to fill them, themselves, many stores will now provide this service, for a fee. However, Cannon also does not recommend this procedure, either. Cannon warns that the Canon PGI-220BK ink cartridge may not function correctly, once it has been refilled. It is very unlikely that the intelligent chip system will work, which would mean the user would never know when they are out of ink, until they are completely out.
These ink cartridges are very easy to replace. The user should consult the printer manual to determine exactly how to access the old cartridge. However, the new cartridge should simply pop into the same slot that is vacated by the used cartridge. From that point, the printer should take over with an automatic installation routine. The automatic routine should clean the print nozzles and give an option to print a test page.
